Custom Veterinary Compounding for Canadian Veterinarians

Since 1994, Petscriptions has worked with licensed veterinarians across Canada to prepare medications in customized strengths, concentrations and flavours, in a variety of dosage forms. Authorized veterinarians can write prescriptions through our online ordering platform and order commercially available veterinary medications and products on the same site, so compounded and commercial medications come from one pharmacy.

Quick answers about veterinary compounding

Does a Veterinary Medication require a prescription?

Yes. All veterinary medication requires a prescription from a licensed Canadian veterinarian. Health Canada regulates veterinary drugs federally, while veterinary and pharmacy practice are also governed provincially.

Can Petscriptions make every strength?

No. Not every strength or formulation is feasible. Petscriptions can review options beyond those shown in the catalogue, but feasibility depends on the medication, formulation and prescription.

Can medication be delivered directly to Pet Owners?

Yes! Medication orders can be delivered either to veterinarian clinics or pet owners across Canada.

What if a commercially manufactured medication is backordered?

Contact the pharmacy to check current wholesaler availability. A backorder does not automatically make compounding appropriate. If the veterinarian writes a separate prescription for a customized preparation, the pharmacy can review whether it can be made.

How can a clinic send a prescription?

Prescriptions can be received either electronically through our platform, by fax, or byphone.
